Stone Hearts by Greyall Stone Hearts by Greyall
Second prize for the contest on Bolter & Chainsword, a Celtic Chapter and a Rogue Trader (the little gal) whose father helped save the Chapter in their direst hour.

Celtic motiffs and knots are a pain in the plasma reactor...but immensely fun.

Cheers, all. Angels are next.

Oh, a little Easter Egg. The small shield on the Marine's shoulder pauldron is a replica of the Battersea Shield, one of the most famous artifacts of Celtic warfare.

Never liked the use of deer horns in either coat of arms or armor. It just makes the wearer look like big game for somebody to shoot, as deer are a prey species.

Now Moose on the other hand...

Very well-laid out. If someone coloured it, it could be framed and hung.

absolutely stunning, so much detail and it's all so clean. I love the heart on his bolt pistol, I may have to get some green stuff and add that to my army :P

(Impressed whistle) Daaaaayum: how long do all those details take you eh? That's definitely worth a prize in my book!

This is a very looking Astartes and a refreshing change to the usual Space Wolves/Norse barbarian themes I see utilized by the more feudal Space Marine Chapters out there: very well done indeed!

Yeah - not gonna lie, that is pretty freaking amazing. Some incredibly cool iconography there - and when you mentioned the shield detail I just; "why has no one ever done that before!?"

Kudos.

Interesting designs. I'd love to know the Chapter's history, and the story of how the Rogue Trader's father helped the Chapter.

Have you named the Celtic Chapter?

They're the Stone Hearts, but they're not my creation, that glory belongs to a great Chapter founder named Octavulg. Here's his entry for the Hearts:

They're indeed awesome.

I had a nagging feel of familiarity while drawing, but it wasn't until someone told me he looked like a 2,40m-tall-Robert Baratheon that I figured why.

This is just gorgeous and as a fan of Celtic art and organic homebrewed SM chapters it's a double-dose of awesome. Your skill with the knotwork and making it all look clean and yet still imposing is to be admired.

I really have to compliment you on the intricate designs you have drawn for both the marine and the rouge trader. You managed to draw lots of details in the marine's armour without going overboard with it. Speaking of intricate armour, does this mean that the marine pictured above has a high rank within the chapter?

Aye, mate, he's the Captain of the 4th Company and protector of that tiny Rogue Trader, whose family was responsible for saving the supplies-starved Chapter after they had a disagreement with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Thank you very much =)

This the prize for 2nd place. The contest consisted of homemade SM Chapters or Chaos Warbands. I chose the winners and I provide the prizes. First prize was the previous giga-sized drawing, this is the silver medalled's prize. Currently working on third, then a few coats-of-arms for the Honorable mentions.

I've got 3 things to say about this:
1. It's awesome, really great artwork
2. Your work needs colors. With your lines as a base I'm sure you can push the coloring to really good levels
3. I've noticed many of your hands are fairly small
Reply
:icongreyall:
Greyall Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2013
For some reason, I like small hands, I think they just look more sleek. Though the truth is their scale does jarr with the rest of the drawing's, the artwork I'm currently drawing doesn't suffer from such.

Agreed on all the rest, I'm about to start learning my way around Photoshop, this might just be a turning point.

Cheers, man, many thanks.
