Sanguinius - Primarch of the Blood Angels by Greyall Sanguinius - Primarch of the Blood Angels by Greyall
First of all, I want to apologize for not detailing the wings. Here's the reason.

I sketched a pose for this guy about six times.

I started him about four times.

I am effing sick of him.

I think I've done a reasonable job, I'm happy with him - oh, the muscle pattern is all wrong...goddamit.

I love you all.

I think the wing armor was pretty creative and all the details elevate Sanguinius to a whole new level of awesomeness! :)

Well, before the Emperor started the creation of Space Marines as we know them, he created 20 Primarchs. Born from genetic engineering and a bit of Warp (magic), the Primarchs are basically the pinnacle of a human being. Super strong, smart, powerful. They are to a space marine what a space marine is to a human, in terms of abilities.

While the Primarchs were still in embryonic state, the Chaos Gods scattered them across the Galaxy, forcing the Emperor to look for them everywhere.

In the meantime, he used the Primarchs' genetic material to create the Space Marines. As there were 20 Primarchs, so did the Emperor form 20 Legions of Space Marines, each Legion's warriors sharing some genetic traits with their Primarchs (Space Marines refer to their respective Primarch as gene-father).

Hope that helped. If you can, do read more on the subject, this stage in Imperium History is awesome.

Cheers =)

I can send you the file, if you want.

What about the downloadable version? I think it's a little bigger than the actual drawing, isn't it usable?

Thanks, mate. Truth be told, for all the damage this chap did to my nerves, I think I like him most out of the three Primarch's I've already done.

He's a great chap. I'm eager to see him finally put on paper. An angel in the grimdark future...should be interesting.

My Sanguinius doesn't have the "usual" angelic expression, but that's rather intentional, I'm trying to make my Primarchs [even] more dark, hence the distressed look and the muscle-armour.

It takes a long time to get the right pose and even then after you are done with just the sketch, that it looks like crap. I know the feeling. Most times, I end up not finishing a sketch I just started because a part of the pose doesn't look right.

It's an awful feeling, that of time, effort, vision and potential wasted. But I'm now starting to feel that persevering has its benefits. =)

Aye, it used to be my modus operandi, pretty much, I still have a swell number of 'to-be-continued' pieces, but I easily lose the will to finish them, so I'm trying to finish all of my artwork in a go, shaping my mind as well as my skills.

Good luck. How long does it generally take you to finish one picture?

It's hard to say. Usually three to four days, around 8 hours at leisure speed.

Nice. It's a little harder for me to estimate the time I use for an image because I end up taking breaks in between.

I'll think about it, mate, but writing, for me, is an accessory to drawing, so I don't think it can be a priority. Sorry about that. If I think of a story, I'll be sure to add it.

So much detail.
I'm just like you, when I draw something that takes forever to get to the right spot I have to abandon it from being absolutely pissed at it haha

Indeed, but this is all a new experience for me, finishing a drawing in just one go. Usually, I'd be bouncing between 3 or 4 pieces simultaneously. Thank you.

That looks seriously good. :)

The pose is really good, but I find myself drawn by the armor ornamentation. Particularly the gemstones on the chest plate, the angels on the hip armor, and the filigree in the under armor.

Also, the muscles look good to me. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Not really, mate. I find it to be the least attractive part of the drawing.

Which is a pitty, since I always strive to make the hilts different. Alas, it's not my strong point.

I hear you.

But even so if you do have trouble making swords or weapons(or suffer artist-block)

Look into the artwork of Rifts as a reference. There is some MIGHTY good designs which could help you out.

Well, most if not all of his depictions show him as being on the more "tidy" side of the Primarchs, visually. Actually, his official look is all-gold. =)
